Litany Against Pride

This prayer was inspired by the writings of Josemaria Escriva.

Lord Jesus, of Mercy and Grace

-Hear my Prayer.

From the belief that my words and actions are superior to others

– Deliver me, Jesus.

From the desire of always wanting my own way

-Deliver me, Jesus.

From the instinct to fight and argue when I am not right

-Deliver me, Jesus

From a haughty disposition towards others when I am right

-Deliver me, Jesus

From giving my opinion when it is not asked

-Deliver me, Jesus

From giving my opinion when charity does not necessitate it

-Deliver me, Jesus

From mentioning myself as an example in conversation

-Deliver me, Jesus

From letting drop words of self-praise in conversation

-Deliver me, Jesus

From highlight my own honesty, wit, skill, intellect, or professional prestige

-Deliver me, Jesus

From the temptation to speak ill of oneself

-Deliver me, Jesus

From the desire for others to praise or find good in me

-Deliver me, Jesus

From hearing praise with satisfaction, or being glad that others have spoken well of me

-Deliver me, Jesus

From being hurt that others are held in greater esteem than me

-Deliver me, Jesus

From seeking or wanting to be singled out

-Deliver me, Jesus

From the envy of the good of others

-Deliver me, Jesus

From despising the point of view of others

-Deliver me, Jesus

From taking all my gifts and talents for granted

-Deliver me, Jesus.

From hiding your gifts out of a sense of false-humility

-Deliver me, Jesus

From not realizing that all gifts and qualities are on loan from You, Our Lord,

-Deliver me, Jesus

From not realizing that I am wholly unworthy of all honor and esteem

-Deliver me, Jesus

From being unaware that all my possessions are gifts from god alone

-Deliver me, Jesus

From being ashamed of not having certain possessions

-Deliver me, Jesus

From not acknowledging my unworthiness to tread on the ground I walk

-Deliver me, Jesus

From making excuses when rebuked

-Deliver me, Jesus

From hiding my humiliating faults from my director or confessor

-Deliver me, Jesus

From a refusal or disgust to carry out menial tasks

-Deliver me, Jesus

From shame in the past

-Deliver me, Jesus

From shame in friendships, family member, or work

-Deliver me, Jesus

From undue flash in speech, clothing, or mannerisms

-Deliver me, Jesus

Lord, in all areas of my life root out the evil vice of pride and grant me the great grace of Humility and Meekness.

I ask this through the Life, Death and Resurrection of your Most Holy and Precious Name, Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

-Amen
